IceFrog get Backup from Valve!
IceFrog just announced a really good news for Dota-Allstars fans on his blog. After some periods developing Dota, finally he got some strong backup for the Dota development. Now he is leading a team at Valve and has all the resource needed to expand Dota even more! Wow, that's really cool! What makes me more excited, he also stated that Dota 6.64 will be ready soon and he even already planned a new hero or hero remakes on Dota 6.65. Woohooooo!!!
I have some really awesome news I'd like to share with you guys. I am now leading a team at Valve! I finally have all the resources needed to do some very exciting stuff that you guys will love. I look forward to revealing more specific details when the time is right.
My goal and top priority in the future is to solve the surrounding issues that affect the DotA experience in order to allow it to reach new heights. Addressing these issues will enable us to further enjoy aspects of DotA such as the gameplay, mechanics, and in-game feel that currently work well and ought to be maintained. As I've said many times in the past and especially after today's developments, I am very excited about DotA's future!
With regards to the 6.64 patch, the focus will be primarily on more balance improvements. It is moving along very smoothly and I expect to have it ready soon. Once those refinements are done, I'll be working on some fun new content such as heroes or remakes for the 6.65 version. If there are specific things, big or small, you want me to consider for patches that follow, let me know.
Wow! I hope much more feature will be introduced in the future. Especially with the new development team! :)
First blood?
ReplyDeleteWhy Valve anyway?
Shouldn't it be a team from Blizzard
cant wait even whatever it is :D
ReplyDeleteTriiiipplee Killll!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSounds gud to me maan....!!
@Coolkid - Yeah, i also a little bit confused on that part. I even search a little bit about Valve, but i cannot find relation between Valve and Blizzard. If someone know, let us know :)
ReplyDeleteValve has been known for employing talented mod creators (see TF2)So it's no surprise that Valve picked up Icefrog and not Blizzard.
ReplyDeleteWhat this means for DotA is that Icefrog finally has some help with development and now he has yet another option to evolve DotA to.
He's been looking into DotA on the SC2 engine but that would come with it's limitations. If Valve will let him develop a game on the Steam engine with his team then the results would be remarkable!
(Don't you think modders make the best game developers?)
The idea is that the team helps IceFrog on DotA for a while, so the entire team gets a feel for it. after this process has been completed, they will start to brainstorm on how to improve DotA, from the core up. The ideas they come up with will then be ported towards a new DotA stand-alone engine. In the mean time DotA will still get updates and will feature as a cheap commercial for the new game when it is released.
ReplyDeleteAll I hope is that Blizzard will be payed some money so they can keep using at least some of the more popular characters.

ReplyDeleteyou said "Dota stand-alone engine",
does it mean that icefrog will abandon Warcraft? What will happen to the heroes? Obviously you cannot just copy the hero models from warcraft. If that is tha case then it means that icefrog will start making heroes from scratch since it will be an independent game...
i want a new hero!
ReplyDelete@Anonymous (;)): It doesn't mean Icefrog will abandon Warcraft, though the DotA stand-alone engine will obviously not be using Warcraft as an engine. But Icefrog and the team will keep updating the Warcraft DotA for a long time to come, at least if there remains enough interest.
ReplyDeleteThey cannot use the exact designs without authorization from Blizzard, so some arrangement would be really nice. However big parts of the designs and even whole moves are so common that they are pretty much in the public domain, especially because the graphics will most likely be different (for example more detailed, or a slightly different style) in a different engine.

ReplyDeletethanks for answering the question...
anyway, i hope the new engine of dota will feature replica of heroes from warcraft if not the exact at least as long as Blizzard will permit it. I just don't want to miss the good ol' heroes from warcraft.
HoN already has replicas of a lot of DotA heroes, they are just different graphically/thematically.

Some people have been asking me recently if 6.64/6.65 are my last DotA versions. I was also asked this for the 6.60 patch as well. As I've said countless times before, I am going to keep updating DotA for a very long time. The quality and growth of the game is very important to me, so you can expect many more updates to come in the future. Hope that clears stuff up
6.64 is focused on some refinements of the recent patches along with a couple extra improvements.
